Rocker sole shoes, such as RYN or MBT can make a world of difference for people suffering from knee pain on elliptical trainers.

The rocker design allows the shoe to adapt to the "pitch" of the pedal. When I do High Intensity Interval Training on an elliptical trainer, there is absolutley no stress on my knees when I am going at full speed.

In ordinary shoes, I feel tremendous stress on my kneecap during the "downstroke" on an elliptical trainer.

Lynn,

Thank you for leaving a comment.

I did find a great research article.

I am reading it right now. It highlights all the muscular imbalances that elliptical trainers cause, WoW! It has got me thinking twice about my clients that only do elliptical.

Great comments! I've had people have varying amounts of elliptical success/knee pain. I would love to know what the research says (I haven't had time to look!). There was a student who was doing some study on this at UWaterloo in the early 2000's...
