Each Part of the Scoliosis & Exercise Manual

Scoliosis is a condition that affects the spine, usually between the ages of 10 and 17 years. The exact cause is unknown, but it is thought to be related to abnormal spinal curvature and growth. It affects as many as one in five adolescents and can occur in both boys and girls. The degree of curvature can vary from mild to severe. Can occur at any age, particularly in women after menopause, when the spine is weakened and estrogen levels are low. But it must be corrected before adulthood, when the spine fuses into a straight position even though it is treatable. If scoliosis is detected before the spine has fused, corrective exercises, drugs, and/or surgery may be used to treat it.
