#1 Cause of Back Pain in Athletes

#1 Cause of Back Pain In Athletes

Athletes suffer a lot from back pain because it often comes on suddenly, forcing them to sit out for several days, weeks, or even months. It is one of the most unpleasant injuries because it often occurs out of the blue and forces you to miss sports activities. In addition to adolescent and adult athletes, back pain is the most common cause of sports participation absence. Fortunately, there are a number of precautions you can take to prevent or reduce back injury during athletic training and competition.

What Is the Most Common Cause of Back Pain in Athletes?

The most common cause of back pain in athletes is a muscle strain or spasm. This happens when you put too much stress on your back muscles, causing them to tear and resulting in pain, stiffness and limited range of motion. Athletes are especially prone to muscle strain because they typically perform repetitive tasks that put excessive strain on certain parts of their bodies. Another common cause of back pain in athletes is a sports injury, such as a disc herniation or joint inflammation. These are typically caused by awkward lifting, repetitive motions or impact during sports, particularly if you don’t have the right equipment or technique.

Exercises to Avoid Back Pain in Athletes

Strengthening your core and lower back muscles will help prevent injury and back pain.

  • Plank

This is an excellent exercise for strengthening your core and back. Place yourself in a push-up position, but rest your weight on your forearms instead of your hands. Hold the position without moving for as long as you can.

  • Deadlift

This is a great compound lift that strengthens your lower back and core muscles.

  • Squats

Squats are an excellent lower-body exercise that can help you avoid back pain. Avoid doing this exercise if you have knee problems.

Preventing back pain in athletes is essential for staying healthy, preserving your performance and preventing sports injuries. Keep these tips in mind to help you avoid back pain in athletes.
